Attention!
It has come to our attention that the media has stated we were involved in a adoption process that involved David and Janelle Eason and the French Bulldog that was supposedly killed at the Eason residence. It is our position that we have NEVER assisted the Eason’s or provided them with any animals from our organization. We are not in anyway involved in this case and do not ever wish to be involved in a case of this matter, as it is our passion and duty to protect and assist animals in any manner possible. Please allow this to be our official statement. To whom it may concern.
The Columbus Humane Society Is:
• A group of volunteers dedicated to providing a safe, loving,
and permanent home for all companion animals. We believe that a
world which shows empathy toward animals will show more compassion
and tolerance toward each other.
• A nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization funded through tax-deductible
donations, by people like you. We do not operate a sheltering facility.
Instead, we recruit foster “parents” who take dogs and
cats, puppies and kittens into their private homes until permanent,
forever homes are found.
-OUR VISION-
That all companion animals are provided
a safe, loving and permanent home.
-OUR PURPOSE-
Advocacy…speak up for vulnerable
animals to prevent cruelty.
Population Control…it is urgent
that we reduce the numbers of unwanted pets through spay and neuter.
Every spay and every neuter prevents MANY births.
Educate…the children and adults
of our community about the responsibilities of pet ownership. These
responsibilities are non-negotiable.
Adoption…and providing additional
opportunities for adoption beyond our geographical area through
the CHS website, Petsmart, Petfinder and Pawprints Magazine.
HOW YOU CAN HELP THE ANIMALS (It’s
easier than you think!)
Become a
foster family and give a homeless animal a second chance at life.
Volunteer
your time for a few hours each month at adoption events or fund-raisers
Make a tax-deductible
gift.
Adopt a
pet to give a loving animal a permanent home.
Have your
companion animals spayed and/or neutered.
Donate items
for foster animals, like toys, scratching posts, pet beds and bowls,
leashes, towels and blankets.
Kindness toward animals helps build a better world for
all of us.
Come Visit Us!
Since we do not have our own sheltering facility, we work out of
volunteer foster homes in a multi-county area including Columbus,
Bladen, Robeson and New Hanover Counties. Foster parents readily
open their homes to these animals for the care and attention they
need. They will also welcome YOU into their home to meet the pet
who interests you, so you may observe the pet in a familiar environment.
Also, our dedicated volunteers visit Petsmart in Wilmington, NC
almost every Saturday to offer some of our pets for adoption. Please
stop by to see if we have the companion you desire. Petsmart is
located on Market Street and New Centre Drive in the Target Shopping
Center. Mapquest
it here!
Other Programs:
If you are interested in our low cost spay/neuter program to spay
or neuter a pet you already own, please contact us immediately by

We would love to help!
Until everyone understands the importance of taking responsibility
for each and every pet they own, there will forever be a waiting
list of animals needing help. It is a simple fact that in our area
of southeastern North Carolina, most strays which are not rescued
are euthanized. Columbus Humane Society knows we must educate adults
and children alike to take this responsibility seriously.
We are happy to speak or work with groups where this message may
be told and we invite you to help us in any area where your skills
may lie.
